First Impressions

Forgive me for I have sinned, I have been spending again! Oops! I have recently purchased a few new products and wanted to give you my first impressions of them.

Maybelline Super Stay Gel Nail Colour 7 days in Hot Salsa

I love my nails being painted but unfortunately due to working in a hospital can't wear nail polish, so it's a big treat for me to paint my nails. I generally only do it when I've got a few days off, so I often like to treat myself to a new polish when I get the opportunity. I like bright colours especially in the summer months, so I chose this bright coral red. I always like to use a base coat as well as a top coat so was intrigued to see how this promise of 7 day colour worked out. I loved the colour instantly. I don't know what I do with my nail but whatever I do I always manage to chip them almost instantly, even with base and top coat! I was impressed with the formula and the large brush meant it was easy to paint both hands, even the right which is always a bit tricky. It lasted a good 48hrs without chipping, which for me is pretty good! It definitely isn't 7 day wear for me but a much gentler person would probably get a good few days out of it. So far I am impressed and would try some more colours in the range.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer

This is often described by beauty bloggers as a cult product, so I thought I'd see how I found it. It's a brilliant price at under £5, so I was hoping I would love it as it is a lot cheaper than my usual Nars concealer. And I really liked it! The consistency is lovely and thick and blend excellently with my beauty blender, and lasts all day. The colour 1 Fair was perfect for my porcelain skin, but they only have 3 colours in the range, so I would think it wouldn't be great for everybody's skin tone. I don't think it gave as much cover as the Nars concealer but it is definitely great for every day make up, but I think for an evening out I would opt for a more heavy duty concealer. For the price though it will definitely be a new staple in my everyday beauty bag.

Benefit They're Real! Push Up Liner in black

I know I'm a bit late on the bandwagon for this product but my old L'Oréal eyeliner had dried up so I needed to purchase a new one. I had heard great reviews for this product and I love the mascara from the They're real! range so decided to give it a whirl. The product is a gel-like formula and you twist up to dispense. The angle of the nib is suppose to push your eyelashes down and out of the way to allow ease of use. I found it a bit tricky to get used to, either too much or not enough came out and when it did you have to work really fast with it as it sets really quickly and it won't budge! After some perseverence though (and a bit of choice language in frustration!) I managed to get the hang of it and when I did the pay off was quite impressive! The line was jet black and stayed like that all day long, no fading or sliding down my eye, I loved it. It is pricey and I don't think I'd use it everyday as you need time to make sure you get it right but it would be a great one for a cat flick you want to stay put on a day or night out. They also have just released three colours in the range, a brown, purple and blue. I have my eye on the purple, so just watch this space... :-)

Eyelure Brow Crayon in Blonde

I generally use a brow powder to fill in my eyebrows but decided to try a pencil to make more space in my make up bag and maybe speed up my morning routine. I went for this one purely because it was on offer in Superdrug and I thought as Eyelure specialise in a smaller range of product it might be a good buy. Sadly I was disappointed with this product. The colour pay off is poor and to get a good amount of product you have to press really hard and even then the colour is poor. I don't think it will be replacing my brow powder, but I will continue to persevere with the product and see if I can make it work.

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua beige 20

I really fancied trying a new foundation. I love my Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation in the winter months as it gives a brilliant coverage and blends brilliantly but it is too heavy for summer - I have struggled with a summer foundation I liked. I have tried BB creams but haven't been impressed with any of them and some of the light weight drug store foundations just don't last on my skin. So I read about the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua, and decided to bite the bullet and pay the price and try it. OMG I LOVE IT! It really does give you that 'your skin but better' feel. It blends amazingly and I've even used my fingers a couple of times and have loved the results. A little also goes a very long way, which means it should last me the rest of the summer and autumn too! I haven't broken out and it lasts all day with a lovely dewy finish which is brilliant on my dry skin. First impression are love at first use!

Until next time x

Birthday Shoes and Burgers!

I celebrated a BIG birthday earlier this year (the big 3-0!) and I asked for a special pair of shoes to celebrated the momentous occasion. I have wanted a pair of Christian Louboutins since I saw Sarah Jessica Parker wear them for her wedding, who doesn't want to be like 'Carrie' from Sex in the City! That shiny red lacquered sole is just amazing and so synonymous with style, I knew that they were shoes for me.

Even for a big birthday there is no way I could ever afford some myself, but I was very lucky that my wonderful friends gave me vouchers for Selfridges and my very kind Dad offered to make up the difference as long as he could come with me to buy them. Alas due to busy schedules and timing we have not been able to make the all important trip to Selfridges, until now!!

We decided to make a little day of it and have lunch out as well, just to make it a bit more special! So off we trouped Dad, Karl and myself - Manchester was the destination of choice and Selfridges was the first stop upon arrival. I practically ran up the escalator I was that excited. I knew that I wanted a plain, black court shoe. Something simple and classic that I could wear with most outfits and that would stay in style for years to come.

The little Louboutin corner was absolutely stunning, very luxurious with very friendly staff. I was like a kid in a sweet shop! I could have tried every pair on (and probably would have given half a chance) but I refrained and looked for a classic style.

After much prancing up and down the luxurious red carpet of the Louboutin concession in a few different styles, feeling every inch a Park Avenue Princess, I chose the 'Sophia Regina' pumps in patent black. I didn't want suede as it can easily get water damaged and I thought the patent looked a bit more glamorous than the matte black. The 'Sophia Regina' pumps have an 85mm apostrophe heel with a round toe featuring a subtle cut out in on the front, which makes them just a little bit different and updates the classic pump, while still retaining the classic style. I LOVE them!

I have worn them, only once and I can tell you hitting the pavement with those shiny red soles was one of the scariest moments ever, but these shoes were made for wearing and I'll be damned if I'm going to leave them sat in a box! I can report that they were (surprisingly) comfortable, they fit superbly and did not rub one bit! I had sore feet by the end of the evening but I think that was more because I rarely wear heels (I live in crocs at work) and the balls of my feet always hurt whenever I wear heels for a long period. I was very impressed with the comfort and style and will cherish them for the rest of my life. Thankfully when you buy a pair they give you the contact information about a cobblers in London who specialise in hand re-painting the soles to revive them once they have been worn a few times.

To celebrate the momentous occasion we went for dinner. I'd just like to mention the little burger bar we went to as it was Fab! It is called Filthy Cow, and is on Tibb Lane in Manchester, which is just stones throw from the Arndale centre. I don't know Manchester very well and we stumbled across this in our post purchase hungry haze. It has a great hip feel to it, with exposed brick and woodwork and the food was AMAZING! I had the 'Filthy Bird' which was a buttermilk southern fried chicken, homemade slaw and chipotle mayo, along with the tastiest onion rings i've ever eaten. I washed it all down with a salted caramel milkshake, which was heaven in a cup. Karl and Dad had burgers and fries and both reported that they were super tasty. I would highly recommend if your out shopping in Manchester or fancy a pre-drinks meal. It is tasty and fresh fast food that will definitely tingle your tastebuds! That was my amazing birthday treat day and one I will never forget, after all its not ever day a girl gets shiny new Louboutins! I am one very happy and very lucky lady :-)

Top 3 Products in July

Another month over, where is the summer going? It's been another relatively quiet month in the Reilly house, but I have still managed to do a little shopping and tried a few new products this month.

So here's my top 3 products in July.

John Frieda continuous control firm hold hairspray

I am a big fan of John Frieda products, they just seem to work well with my hair type. I often use the Frizz Ease shampoo and conditioner, but up until now haven't tried any of their styling products. I was close to running out of my usual Elnett hairspray at the end of last month and picked this up on a 3 for 2 offer in Boots. I don't use a lot of styling products daily as I work in a hospital so my hair needs to be off my collar and out of my face, but I do like to ensure it's sleek and stays in place all day. And this hairspray was just the ticket! It has a lovely smell that isn't too over powering like some hairsprays, and gives brilliant hold without leaving my hair feeling stiff and dry. It also worked brilliantly when my hair was down, keeping my style in place but still being able to run my fingers through it easily, it was almost invisible. I will defiantly be repurchasing this product again as I have nearly used the whole can (oops!). A thumbs up from me if your wanting to try a great hold hairspray.

Soap & Glory 'Foam Call' shower and bath body wash

This was actually a repurchase but I haven't used it in a while and i had forgotten quite how much I love it! It not only smells incredible (like Coco Mademoiselle) but foams up brilliantly and leaves my skin feeling so soft and clean, plus the smell lingers for a while afterwards. I have been using it with the Righteous Butter afterwards to moisturise and together the two make an awesome combination. I haven't felt or smelt this good in ages! Plus right now there is an offer at Boots, spend over £10 on Soap & Glory and receive a free Righteous Butter, win win!!

Nars Cream Blush in Cactus Flower

This is not a new purchase, more of a re-discovery. I have had it in the recesses of my make-up collection for about a year, but had forgotten all about it (something I tend to do when I try lots of new products!) but I was having a sort through my make-up and found it tucked away. I thought with it being summer I'd get it and out and give it another whirl. I had forgotten how lovely it is. It is a bright coral colour with a small amount of gold shimmer, perfect for summer and with it being a cream blush blends easily and lasts all day. It is not too shimmery so doesn't look over the top for daytime. It's now a staple in my everyday summer make-up. It has made me remember how much I love Nars products and how great they are in quality and usability. I may have to have a cheeky browse through the Nars website this month, my bank balance is not going to be happy!

Thats it for another month, looking forward to trying some more products this month and maybe having another look through my make-up for another lost treasure.
